Professional Oil Painting and Restoration with Nigel Allison

County Antrim artist Nigel Allison is widely respected not only for his own paintings, but also for his expertise in cleaning and restoring oil paintings. With years of hands-on experience and a deep understanding of traditional materials and techniques, Nigel offers a careful, sympathetic approach to conservation. Each piece is treated individually, ensuring the original character and intent of the artwork are always respected.

One of the most dramatic improvements often comes from varnish removal. Old varnish naturally yellows over time, making paintings appear darker than intended. Through professional cleaning, Nigel can reveal the true colours beneath, restoring depth, contrast, and vibrancy. Beyond surface cleaning, he also addresses issues such as flaking paint, minor canvas damage, and weakened frames, helping to stabilise artworks for the future.

Importantly, oil paintings should never be cleaned using household products or DIY methods. These can cause irreversible damage to delicate pigments and surfaces. Nigel uses specialist materials and proven techniques, beginning with careful testing to determine the safest approach for each painting.

Whether you own a cherished family heirloom, a contemporary piece, or a valuable antique, professional restoration can breathe new life into your artwork while protecting your investment. Working from his studio, in Galgorm, Ballymena, Nigel Allison provides trusted painting cleaning and restoration services to clients across Northern Ireland and beyond.

Restoration is more than repair, it’s an act of preservation. With expert care, treasured paintings can continue to be enjoyed for generations, retaining both their beauty and their story.
